Auchinleck on cloud nine as Talbot bring Junior Cup back home
29 MayAuchinleck enjoyed a day to celebrate as the Scottish Junior Cup returned to the town for a record ninth time, as Auchinleck Talbot beat Musselburgh Athletic 2-1 in the final at Rugby Park in Kilmarnock – in front of a large travelling support.
A goal two minutes into extra time from Brian Young proved to be the winner, after the teams finished level at 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Talbot were overwhelming favourites to lift the cup, and everything seemed to be going according to plan when Michael McCann fired home from the edge of the area just before half time to put Talbot in front.
But despite their tag as underdogs, the side from the East put up a great showing in their first final to force the game into extra time when Chris King equalised twenty minutes from time.
However Auchinleck made sure of the win with Young’s goal, bringing the cup back to town for the second time in three years, for the club’s fifth final victory at Rugby Park, and ninth overall – a record.

The match was broadcast live on the BBC’s Alba gaelic channel – and will be available to watch for the next week on the BBC iPlayer – if you missed the game – or you’d like to enjoy it again you can watch it here.
