Auchinleck schools closed as gale force winds batter area

Schools in Auchinleck have been forced to close their doors, and other facilities and transport are badly affected, as gale force winds his across Scotland.
All schools in Auchinleck, and across East Ayrshire, are closed today - Thursday 8th December as a precaution after the Scottish Government issued a 'red alert' weather warning late on Wednesday night.
The area is now, along with the rest of central Scotland, being battered by gale-force winds.

The red warning advises that there are likely to be strong winds of 75-80 miles per hour with gusts of up to 90mph.
Strathclyde Police advise that conditions for travel between 12noon and 3pm are likely to be poor and you should expect significant delays. The weather could result in all main road bridges being closed and there may be disruption to power supplies. They are also preparing for blown over trees and vehicles.
