The Barony A Frame Trust in Auchinleck will receive £43,400 of LEADER money to support a new Volunteer Project.

The Ayrshire LEADER funding programme has seen the Local Action Group (LAG) approve a further £180,000 to projects across Ayrshire, taking the current total funding approval to £324,000. Seven rural projects welcomed awards.

LEADER is part of the new Scottish Rural Development Programme (SRDP 2007-2013), which is a European funded programme aimed at promoting economic and community development within rural areas. LEADER aims to help those active in rural Scotland to consider the long term potential of their area and unlock this potential through building confidence.

As a Patron of the project, MSP Cathy Jamieson said that she was extremely pleased that the A Frame Trust has received funding from Ayrshire LEADER, as it will make a substantial difference to both the A Frame Project and residents of the former Coalfields Area. "I am sure that the Volunteer Project will have long-term benefits for improving community involvement and relationships between the generations as well as helping local people to improve their skills and confidence."

What do you think this project will mean for our community?

Wouldn't it be great if visitors to Ayrshire were informed as to what it has to offer? Why not have Southern Ayrshire Gateways; Muirkirk, New Cumnock, Dalmellington Barrhill and Ballantrae, introduce them to what's available, e.g. maps showing; Dumfries House, the Barony "A" Frame, Dean Castle, Loch Doon, Baird Institute, Craigengillan, Afton Water, etc. Tourist Information Centres at spots such as the Tam o'Shanter cafe at the New Cumnock roundabout.

Hello Geoff

I quite agree there is alot happening in each place that could bring visitors at the moment I am trying to work on an having an artists studio space locally to provide exhibits and where people could see the work of local artists in the area....
