MSP credits Auchinleck Primary's Credit Union School Collection Point
1 Mar 2010Along with councillors David Shaw and Neil McGhee, I visited Auchinleck Primary to see how local pupils are being actively involved in the Credit Union. On a weekly basis two pupils collect savings brought in by their class mates and a third pupil takes on the important task of organising the queue and waiting area! This is a great way for young people to get into the habit of saving and also lets them see how the Credit Union is run.
I recently asked Parliamentary Questions about the number of credit unions in schools and how many pupils benefit. Unfortunately the Scottish Government does not collect this information so it is difficult to assess how many people are involved. I hope that the Scottish Government will consider putting additional support into this type of project.
