Pool pupils make a splash for Auchinleck at Ayrshire championships

  • Auchinleck Academy pupils starred at the Ayrshire championships

Fifteen young Auchinleck Academy swimmers competed in the recent hard-fought Ayrshire Schools Swimming Championships – resulting in some great individual performances.

Medal winners from our local school:
Rebecca Morrison: 12 & under 50m freestyle – gold & 12 & under 50m butterfly – gold
Rosie Wynne: 15/16 yrs 100m breaststroke – gold & 15/16yrs 200m breaststroke – gold
Rachael Howie: 15/16 yrs 100m backstroke – bronze
Cameron Maguire: 15/16 yrs 100m backstroke – gold
Alexander Leventakis: 17/19 yrs 100m breaststroke – silver

An amazing performance from Rosie Wynne also saw her achieving the qualifying time for consideration for the Scottish Schools Championships in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke.

Councillor Jim Roberts, Spokesperson for Lifelong Learning, said: “Congratulations to these talented young athletes for their outstanding success in the Ayrshire Schools Swimming Championships.

“Clearly the refurbished pool area in Auchinleck Academy is helping the pupils to realise their true sporting potential”.
