Sporting success for Auchinleck Academy bowler Carrie
15 DecemberAuchinleck Academy celebrated yet another sporting success recently, when a second year pupil was selected to play for the national indoor bowling team.
Carrie McLean, 13, travelled to Dunfermline’s Abbeyview Indoor Bowling Club to play in a trial match for the Scotland under-25 team. Carrie’s club – Auchinleck Indoor Bowling Club – had put her forward for consideration.
After four hours of play against stiff competition, Carrie learned she had made the Scotland squad – and that she will be travelling to Bristol in the New Year to play in the under-25 international series.
Auchinleck Academy headteacher Peter Gilchrist said: “We are all very proud of Carrie’s achievement. Being selected for a national squad at such a young age is excellent and bodes well for her future sporting career”.
Councillor Jim Roberts, Spokesperson for Lifelong Learning, said: “Congratulations to Carrie on making the Scotland indoor bowling team. She is a credit to the whole school and the local community, who have supported her all the way and, I’m sure, will continue to do so”.
