Stewart brings world indoor bowls trophy back to Auchinleck

Provost Stephanie Young was on hand to cheer when Stewart Anderson of Auchinleck won the mixed pairs title at the WIBC World Indoor Championships last week.

Held at Auchinleck Indoor Bowling Club, the four-day event saw Stewart and partner Margaret Letham beat David Gourlay and Carol Ashby 2-1 in a three end tie break final.

Provost Stephanie Young said: "I was delighted to be invited to throw the first jack at the start of the competition and even happier to come back and attend the presentation of the trophy to Stewart.

"All the participants and judges were delighted with the venue and enjoyed being in Auchinleck. The whole tournament has been a great credit to East Ayrshire and I would like to congratulate Auchinleck Indoor Bowling Club on staging such a successful event."
