Auchinleck-based bowler Stewart Anderson is on top of the world after he lifted the World Indoor Bowls singles title with a dramatic win in the final at Yarmouth.
Stewart (27) who trains at the Auchinleck indoor bowling club beat favourite Paul Foster of Troon 10-10, 10-9 in two tightly fought sets to win the Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines World indoor singles title Potters Leisure Resort
The upset win saw our local player, the ninth seed overcome fellow Scot Paul Foster, the number three seed who was bidding for a record-equalling fifth world crown. It was Stewart's second appearance in the final, having finished runner-up three years ago.
Anderson looked to be in pole position in the first set when he led 10-6 with just two of the 11 ends remaining, but Foster scored three when facing a set lie, and then claimed a single on the last end to tie the set.
In a see-saw second set Anderson scored three in the first end, increasing his lead to 6-1 after four ends. Foster fought back to 6-5 before Stewart pulled away again to lead 9-5. A pair, and two singles from Foster levelled the scores going into the final, decisive end, and Stewart held his nerve to draw his shot within inches of the jack to take the coveted world crown and a record £45,000.
